In early March,
D&AD and Metro challenged UK creatives to design a coverwrap to inspire and
motivate readers on their morning commute.
Big thanks also to our judges, who gave up their time to pick the best work:
Kenny Campbell, Editor, Metro
Paul Brazier, D&AD President & ECD, AMV.BBDO
Ringan Ledwidge, Director, Rattling Stick
Alex Bec, Director and Editor, It's Nice That
The winner will be posted on our site on Wednesday evening.
And sorry for the strange font sizes - system problems.

Hmm, some of these are nice, some are a bit pointless.
The brief was to inspire and motivate Londoners for the day ahead. Most of these contain no message at all and are simply rhetorical visual puns.
Fun, but not really what we were asked to do...

...The last one is brilliant though, spot on. A clear winner...

I agree with the first comment. three of the designs relate to the brief (which as to inspire and motivate Londoners for the day ahead), however i fail to understand how some of the other designs that involve just photos can fit this brief.

The last one is bang on the New Media Paradigm. It really is The Daily Me. Never mind how things /are/. Let's have how we /want/ them to be.
I've already printed mine own, blown it up and started. SPORT: All Sport Cancelled In Shock Anti-Sport Horror.
Eat (3B) lead, Sudoku.

It's about engagement isn't it not just a pretty piece of art? We 're bombarded with images when we're travelling- what would be different would be something that draws the reader/viewer into reaction.
Last one first, or brolly one (less engagement but made me smile)

I think the judges need to go back and read their own brief again - only the last design would inspire and motivate anyone, if they had a pen handy. How grass, coloured wool and a random mix of objects on dodgy patterns fit I don't know. If they need the support of accompanying explanations then they have not worked!

the artist is too advance of his time. I believe that the linen looked like juicy couture terry in the surface.

I'm sure TfL will be more than happy for the Metro to hand out pages of stickers to people before they get on a bus or tube. The cleaners will be inspired to get new jobs within a week of picking them off the floor and windows.

Some of you are forgetting where the coverwraps will be seen – i.e. mainly in the morning rush hour (rather than on a webpage) – and you’re not thinking about the accumulative effect of seeing the same image everywhere.
So in that context, the bolder visual statements would actually work better in repetition than the more ‘bitty’ designs.
X-Ray Paper is great because it makes light of the readers on their morning commute, whilst the Underground Moquettes* design is also good because many Metro readers will be sitting on trains with those very same fabric designs.
(*“Dodgy patterns” they may be, but if you don’t recognise them then perhaps you’re not a Londoner.)

I've just checked out the winning design (the flowers) and i'm struggling to understand how 4 clipped images of flowers 'excites and inspires Londoners for the day ahead' (as the brief requested)...if the brief was to 'brighten up someone's day' then it would have been great...
