Congratulations to the 308 student teams whose work made it through Student Awards judging. From that group, one hundred teams have been nominated for a Student Yellow Pencil.
The full list is available to download now. All the work will be featured on the D&AD Winners’ Site, which will launch at the end of May.
Nominated work will be on exhibition at New Blood (29 June-1July) at
the National Hall, Olympia, London. Winners will be announced on 2
July at the Student Awards Ceremony at King’s Place, London and online
on 3 July.
Greg Quinton, D&AD Education Chairman, has this to say, “Student Awards work was judged with the professional Awards this year, and frankly it was difficult to tell the two apart – a testament to the quality of the work submitted. The creative standard is simply brilliant this year. Answering a Student Awards Brief is a big challenge and the judging (like all things D&AD) is of the highest standard possible.”
Hey guys, the link appears to be broken to the student awards pdf

Do nominees get an invite to new blood?
Posted by: Brad "tarkers" Hall | 08 May 2009 at 08:57 PM
I am super dissapointed with not having a REAL BOOK this year for Students!!!!!!!!
The reason that more people can view the work online has nothing to do with the printed book. As a international competition, it is appreciated to do BOTH!. For students, the printed book is like a trophy for us!!! How meaningful it is.
Hey! This year winnersss ... need your support!

Hi Brad,
If you are not already exhibiting as part of a University Network course, you are very welcome to attend this year's New Blood on either Tuesday 30 June or Wednesday 1st July. Please register for your ticket at www.dandad.org/newblood09.
We really want everyone to pledge their support to new graduates and to commit to being at the exhibition, so we look forward to seeing you there!
Thanks,
Rhiannon James

Does anyone know when the student annual will go live online?
Posted by: Al | 21 May 2009 at 12:06 AM
We're working on getting the nominations up now, and they should go live within the next 10 days or so.
We're aiming to get the complete online annual live as soon as the Student Awards Ceremony ends on the evening of 2 July.

Hi Janice, in response to your comment about the online annual:
The online annual is a response to the changes in the way our audience look for great work and talent. It’s really exciting that we are able to produce an interactive resource like this and we’ve been working closely with great creative online suppliers all year to produce something that is bang up to date and that will promote the Student Awards winners for people to access forever. It’s opening up massive possibilities and we will be able to build it into something really inspirational and dynamic.
Obviously, I understand the disappointment that both the tutors and students must feel that there is no printed book this year. It is a physical record of their achievements, but in the modern world it no longer does the job it was supposed to do. The aim of the annual is to highlight them to industry as well as promote the colleges and tutors achievements. The industry are not interested in waiting six months for a book to be published anymore.
In an ideal world we would do both, but this is financially impossible if we wish to maintain the integrity of our awards scheme. There is a perception that it doesn’t cost anything to put work up online, or that it is extremely cheap, but the costs are actually often comparable to a printed book in order to do it properly. We have to prioritise and the unanimous opinion of the Management Team and the D&AD Executive Committee was that the priority was promoting these students as soon and as widely as possible, and in a way that is relevant to the professionals who might want to employ them.
D&AD and our supporters invest around £350K a year in the Student Awards in pure cash and staff time. That money is extremely carefully invested to produce a scheme which has integrity and which protects above all the interests of you guys, the students who enter. That is always, and will always remain, our priority. Laura, Education and Professional Development Director

Hi Deborah, I've let the student awards team know you've been in touch about the exhibition. The website's been a little delayed - it should be going live this week. Sorry about the hold up.
